3M BIC to host week-long events to foster regional innovation adoption.
Forward-thinking businesses across the Leeds City Region looking to develop new products, increase productivity or disrupt their industry, are being invited to a series of events taking place during Innovation Week hosted by the 3M BIC, Huddersfield, from 4 – 8 November.
During the week, businesses across the region will have the opportunity to seek advice from industry professionals, including 3M and Siemens, around successful innovation and how to adopt innovative practices to generate profitable new products, processes or business models.
Innovation seekers will also get access to academics and researchers from the University of Huddersfield to discuss potential collaboration and research opportunities, as well as guided tours of the 3M BIC.
The inaugural Innovation Week will take place 4 – 8 November at the 3M BIC, based on Firth Street in Huddersfield.
Its focal event Business Innovation: How to create extraordinary value will take place on 5 November. Opened by Roger Marsh OBE, Chair of the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership, keynote speakers will include 3M and Siemens, as well as the 3M BIC’s lead design and visualisation specialist, Paul Tallon, who will outline the principles of generative design linked to leading edge additive manufacturing to help reduce waste and increase efficiency.
The event will incorporate a panel discussion with the key speakers and local businesses such as Ionix AT, manufacturers of high-performance piezoelectric materials and regional technology transfer company, RTC North.
The discussion will be followed by an awards ceremony, the culmination of a design challenge set up for product design students at the University of Huddersfield the week before. Judges of the challenge include 3M, Siemens, Mamas and Papas and Elmwood. Winners of each category will win a site tour from their category sponsor. The overall winner will be supported by the 3M BIC’s design and visualisation team to produce a prototype of their design using the centre’s advanced technologies.
On Wednesday 6 November, businesses seeking collaboration opportunities with the University of Huddersfield can drop-in between 4pm and 7pm to speak to academics and researchers. Expertise includes; data analytics, logistics and supply chain, technical textiles, product design, management and strategy, rail, Computational Fluid Dynamics, applied microbiology, and media and spreadable marketing, plus much more.
Sue Cooke, CEO of the 3M BIC, said: “Innovation should be part of every business’s growth strategy. Without it there’s the risk of being left behind as competitors leap ahead, developing new products or more streamlined and efficient processes.
“In times of uncertainty we want to help businesses thrive and hope that Innovation Week attracts businesses across the Leeds City Region that see the potential in innovation and want to seek advice from those that excel at it, to those that can offer support and access to technology, such as the 3M BIC and the University of Huddersfield.”
