Name, company and role:
I’m Vicki Walker and I’m a Commercial Finance Broker working with Key Commercial Finance.
What does your company do, and how does your role support the company goal?
We are independent Commercial Finance brokers. We help businesses, Property Investors and Developers with their funding requirements. So that could be a business buying new premises, a landlord looking to add to their portfolio, a developer looking to build new houses or businesses just needing a cash injection. All our managers source from a wide panel of lenders and offer unbiased advice to our clients.
What is your career background?
I started work in the Financial Services arena in 2001. I spent 15 years working in the Invoice Finance sector, mainly with Bibby Financial Services. I decided to take the plunge and go self-employed in 2017. It was then I joined Key as a licensee and by working alongside Tony, I’ve been able to build my knowledge and expertise in the Commercial Property and Property Development finance market.
What makes your company stand out in your industry/sector?
We’re totally committed to doing the right thing by our clients.
What is your proudest achievement since being with the company?
I think the thing I’m most proud of is that after 2 ½ years of being self-employed I’m still here. Which hopefully means I’m doing it well and building myself a good reputation.
What is your top tip for success in business/career?
If you’re in a similar kind of role to me then people are buying YOU! So, for me, it’s about being open and honest, make sure you listen well and just “being right with folk”.
Why are you passionate about being located in Huddersfield?
I was born in Huddersfield so it’s always nice to help businesses in my hometown.
What do you enjoy doing when not at work?
When I’m not at work I spend a lot of time watching my sons in various sports. However, they’re growing up now and becoming more independent. So now I enjoy being able to sneak off now and again for a cheeky week in the sun with the ‘significant other’.
